The Great One's lockout prediction

08:19 AM ET 09.12 | Two of the game's best players, Bobby Orr and Wayne Gretzky, have chimed in with their opinions on the looming lockout, and they're optimistic. The Great One lived through the last lockout as a minority owner of the Phoenix Coyotes. He says there is still time to avoid delaying the season. "I really think this one won't be as long as the last one," said Gretzky Tuesday during an event at Casino New Brunswick in Moncton. "I think somehow, some way, both sides will come together and we'll be playing hockey sooner rather than later." ... "I just can't believe they won't get together," Orr said Monday in Charlottetown. "There may be a short delay, but I can't believe it will be more than a short time. It would be so silly."

Anyone watch the '87 Canada Cup on TSN last night? From when Hockey was a great sport. Gretz and Lemieux talent and a bunch of Messier elbows. Refs looking the other way when it was appropriate. What ever happened to that sport? I miss it..

You bet I did. Last international played in anger. All we get now is Limpic love ins.

You forget how stacked the power play was, Mario (I think he???s only 21?), Gretzky, Messier, Bourque, Coffey. Killer Gilmour and Hawerchuck killing penalties?

You forget how good a guy like Goulet was, or Rochefort?

You get some of the famous Messier elbows. Today he???d be shot for his sins.

That was quite a team.

I'd like to see the 1976 Challenge Cup again too, where Orr played on one leg.

And to see the Russian Green Unit, Larionov, Makharov, Krutov, Kasatonov and Fetisov. Krutov was the guy the Canucks thought they had picked up when he came this way with Larionov, not the fat guy the actually got.

And man was Kamiensky fast.

tend to focus on the line about "leadership" and how he ended the 54 yr. drought.....but I agree on his play esp. during that run

I'll gladly take the old Tocchet, Kerr, Propper days with Keenan coaching. They may not have won the Cup, but it was darn good hockey to watch.

by the way, I love this Gretzky picture....I wish I had the ability to do it, but I want to put this up with Lord Irk's "racetrack" shot. It looks like he's calling in for the morning work times that Irk is watching
