Aceves disses Valentine from the mound

08:14 AM ET 09.13 | Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine and reliever Alfredo Aceves went another round -- this time on the mound in what otherwise could merely have been a routine pitcher substitution. [Aceves] took his public disdain for Valentine to another level, the likes of which are rarely seen on a major-league mound: It may be subtle, but [a video graphic shows] that Aceves refuses to look at Valentine and then makes an effort to run around his teammates instead of simply passing directly by his manager. ... Knowing what we know about Valentine vs. Aceves -- and also considering Aceves hasn't done this before -- it's a good bet this was intentional. If it was, it was a total lack of professionalism from Aceves.

That is certainly the case.

It's funny how one year makes a difference. Last year Aceves was loved by most of the fans for coming in and doing whatever he was called on to do. He was solid all last year as a starter and reliever but with the Sox collapse he's now a bum that everyone hates because of his bad attitude and because he didn't make it as a closer.

Aceves is a punk..........and he sucks. Why is he still on the team?

I think trying to make him the closer was a mistake.

I thought Harper is a Punk.

now I'm confused.

He's shooting himself in the foot, maybe he shouldn't be the closer and probably feels betrayed, but he's got to be professional about it, actions like this lowers his Value and he will wind up with the veterans minimum real fast!

Aceves has always been a "punk." Teams put up with him because he could pitch well at times . He will be on someones team next year because there just are not enough pitchers to go around. Might be better for the Red Sox just to release him now.

I dissed the boss in front of the crew once. I got fired the next day.
