Calhoun's final power play

08:20 AM ET 09.13 | The end of the Jim Calhoun era will be followed by the Kevin Ollie era in Storrs. In the past months, the whispers were the poker game went like this: Calhoun wanted Ollie to be permanent coach and [Warde Manuel] wanted a man with head coaching experience and was willing to name Ollie only as an interim. Ironically, Calhoun probably would have had an easier time convincing Jeff Hathaway, an AD he helped sack. I heard Ollie wasn't crazy about the interim idea, to the point where he was hesitant about taking the job. That's understandable. Lacking inside presence, the team isn't going to be very good this season, and every move Ollie makes, every breath he takes, will be weighed in a decision on whether he should be the permanent guy.

Is UCONN even allowed in the tourneys next year? I kinda remember reading their APR was too low and they were banned from post-season play.

I love how he soldiers through when he thinks they'll have a good year then retires when they are about to be really bad. He's leaving a huge mess for the next guy.

Coach Jim is a **** who's only interest was in winning, not promoting education or graduating students.....as evidenced by the NCAA sanctions placed on UCONN this year.
I knew a sportswriter who used to cover UCONN and I asked him if Gino Auriemma was as big an azzwipe as he appeared to be. He said, "you've got it all wrong. He's a sweetheart of a guy who just speaks his mind. But Calhoun, who plays the nice guy is an arrogant son of a pup". Sure enough, Calhoun showed his true colors a few months later when questioned about his bloated salary in a state that was running a huge deficit.

He won't be missed by anyone other than the vampires who funnel big bucks into that program in order to get luxury seats and sniff jocks.

Damn Colonel thanks for making my day. Those were the best moments of this millenium for any Buckeye. I saw everyone of them. Ted Ginn was the fastest Buckeye to ever put on cleats
12-0 deal with it…
