Giants still trying to replace Super hero

08:05 AM ET 09.14 | Mario Manningham leapt into Giants lore during Big Blue's Super Bowl win this past winter, hauling in a 38-yard catch to record the key play en route to the title. As it turned out, it was a parting gift to Giants fans. ... As we saw in the Giants' opener against the Cowboys, his void threatens to be a recurring problem Big Blue must fix. Offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride, who patiently waited to spring Manningham late in last season's Super Bowl, understands what his absence means. "We're looking for that guy to make the big plays when they load up on everybody else," Gilbride admitted Thursday, conceding it may take more than just one guy to do it. "When they're doubling Vic and they're doubling Hakeem, somebody's got to win for you."

Not exactly the most accurate of stories. Manningham was injured and came back as soon as he could. but yes, he will be hard to replace - he is one of the best and most consistent receivers with sideline catches - all the way back to when he played at Michigan. His SB catch was not a fluke.

Blame yourself
Gilbride. Pick a third receiver and stick with him. Jeesh! And it isn't Hixon. I think you drafted Rueben Randle in the second round for a reason. And Jerrel Jernigan in the third round the year before and Barden in the third round the year before that. Pick one!

50,
Killdrive stinks, and calls a very predictable game. They win in spite of him, on Eli's arm and reads, and the guys that have showed up the last few seasons (Nicks, Cruz, Manningham, Smith). Hixon looks good when he's healthy. I don't think Barden, Scott or Jernigan will ever cut it as pros. Wilson needs to get some time in before they kick him to the curb, likewise Randle- where was he last week? I also have to question their strength/conditioning coach and trainers. They've been the most injury prone team in the league for years! i also assert that if they woke up and put real grass down at Met Life stadium, they'll add YEARS to these guys' careers.

This is the "big head" syndrome that has plagued many SB winners...they think they are stars now, chase the money then realize that MAYBE it was the system they were in that made them elevate. Too many examples to name...add Mario to the list

I agree, especially regarding the conditioning program. I've been saying that for the last three years, especially because a lot of the injuries are soft-tissue (muscle pulls, etc...) that should be more avoidable. Some times injuries are bad luck, some times the result from bad practices.

Nothing to worry, that 3rd receiver will eventually pops up as the season goes on. There's too much talents in the receivers group. Barden, Jernigen and Randle, one of this young guys will have a break out season.
