Eagles secretly readying Foles?

08:06 AM ET 09.14 | Andy Reid decided to close Eagles practice to media, which led to all sorts of speculation. The reason to examine Reid's decision -- which came down suddenly and without warning a half-hour before Thursday's scheduled-to-be-open practice -- is what it tells us about Reid and about the state of the team. This is a coach who thrives on consistency, on year-in and year-out sameness. ... How about this? Let's just say, for the sake of argument, that Reid and his staff had watched tape of Sunday's game in Cleveland and reached the same conclusion a lot of you reached -- that Michael Vick is just not going to be the quarterback that leads this team to greatness. What would the coaches do? They would start preparing rookie Nick Foles to take over the position.

Based on Vick's injury history, it's not surprising. What next? Andy Reid has a weight issue?

September 14, 2012  08:17 AM ET

That would be a smart move, Vick is Injury Prone!

Methinks Andy did not wait until Thursday to watch the tape of the Cleveland game. Sounds like an injury.

That's not the tape that they saw something on. It's the tape of the Baltimore game that made this change. They saw something in the Ravens' tape, and they are putting in a couple of plays to take advantage of it. They hope to surprise Brother-of-Horse with something he's not expecting on Sunday.

And they've got the Inquirer covering for them. They gave the reporter access to the cheerleaders' locker room instead if he'd write this was about Vick and Foles.

could Andy's stomach take watching that game again???

interesting theory and highly plausible.

Foles looked pretty good in a preseason game against the Pats.

Pats played the Titans last week, and the Cardinals this week. They still think it's pre-season.

True that, but it's the only way to gauge how much knowledge a rookie QB has absorbed and whether he has the ability to incorporate that knowledge onto the field.

Preseason is not "season" and Foles is no "secret weapon." This will probably equal the Russell Wilson experiment. (BTW, Bish, you're talking to yourself.)

$100 mil down the drain

September 14, 2012  09:16 AM ET

Poor Iggles. If/when Foles comes out and sucks a big one, people will just be questioning why they made the change in the first place.

It's not the first time. Thanks anyway.

Not a believer in Wilson, eh? I haven't seen anything of him at all, but I'm wondering how long it will be before Pete Carroll pulls the plug. They play the Pack in week 3. That would be an interesting time to put Flynn in.

These religious types preach to the choir, too.

Give me a break. This is pure speculation. Vick ain't going nowhere.

Can you put out a bounty on your own QB? Maybe he was putting up some bucks for his defense to take Vick out during practice?
