08:13 AM ET 09.14 | The team may be struggling, but Red Sox management made one message clear Thursday: It's not for sale. Red Sox principal owner John Henry and president and CEO Larry Lucchino both refuted a report that said the current ownership group was considering a sale of the team and had quietly discussed such a thing with potential buyers. "A sale of any kind is so far from our thinking it hasn't even come up, apart from technical planning issues involving death or disability," Henry said. "This report is completely without foundation." ... Lucchino spoke during an interview on WEEI Radio in Boston. "Nonsense," Lucchino said. "[The owners] feel the same kind of competitive juices that the fans feel, that I feel."

That would be one way to get rid of Lucchino.

Considering the bar that was set by the Dodgers, this team is going to field a pretty penny. That said, I'm not sure how many deep pockets are out there willing or able to shell out the money to make this purchase.

No question that sale of the Dodgers dragged a lot of teams' values up, including the Red Sox, and pushed the Yankees' value up.

If I were a team owner, I would at least explore the sale opportunities out there in the wake of that purchase.
