08:14 AM ET 09.14 | For three seasons, and not all that long ago, he was one of the best pitchers in the National League. Doing a webchat at Diamondbacks.com on Thursday, free agent Brandon Webb said he hasn't thrown lately, but that he still hasn't given up on making it back to the majors. "I haven't retired yet," Webb said. "But, I did stop throwing a couple months ago, so I don't know. I may pick up a ball this winter just to see where I'm at and go from there, but nothing as of right now. I'm just kind of hanging out. Nothing finalized yet." Webb was doing the chat in advance of the Diamondbacks' first-ever Alumni Game at Chase Field on Saturday. He still isn't sure whether he'll try pitching in the game. "As of right now, I don't know if I can."

It's basically this: I'm not retired, but I can't pitch.

It has been three years and most baseball have forgotten all about you. It looks like you have but one choice come up with a knuckleball or quit.

webb has been gone for at least 3 long years but can't accepted his failure as a pitcher,,

"Failure" is a little harsh. He was a groundball pitcher who was very successful until he hurt his arm. It sounds like it is still a problem for him which suggests that it isn't going to get better so he might as well retire.

A few years ago, this guy was about as good as any pitcher in baseball. Then the injury...sad, because he was a tough guy for a batter to face.

Wiseup: Webb was one of those pitchers who in his prime could frustrate hitters. They would see a pitch they thought they could drive deep to outfield if not out of park. but all they ended updoing was hit a sharp ground ball to short stop. That was then. Nowwebbcan barely get the ball to the plate. Webb should retire into the sunset and not look back.
