08:15 AM ET 09.14 | The Core Fore had been reduced to one, but it may double soon. Andy Pettitte is ready. Whether Joe Girardi decides to put the lefty back into the rotation next week remains to be seen. But all signs point to him facing Toronto on Tuesday in New York. Following a 55-pitch simulated game during which he felt no discomfort in the left fibula he broke June 27, Pettitte said "I felt like my command was really good again today and my stuff, everybody ... thought my stuff was great. Hopefully I can get back in there and try to get into the rotation. That's what I would like to do." Girardi said Pettitte will be re-examined Friday by team physician Dr. Chris Ahmad. If Pettitte is cleared, the Yankees are likely to send him against the Jays.

Let's go Jays!

Go Andy Boy!!!

September 14, 2012  08:34 AM ET

By being available again he has put Girardi in a position I don't think he really wanted to be in.

It won't matter.......

Sure it will matter. Whatever innings Andy will give will be quality innings. First outing he might hit about 75 pitches or 4 possibly, 5 innings. Last time Andy showed up to play we went on a run and took control of 1st place.

You are right. DUMB move. Pitching is not the problem. Unless he can hit with RISP ( which they are a disaster at ), then it is a waste. You move Phelps, who has kept them in games, for a guy who can only give you 60 pitches Tuesday? And in a pennant race? Girardi is the village idiot, and that is one big village.

Starting pitching is not the problem. He changes nothing and is just as likely to get shredded as do well. Dumb move.

pettitte needs to step in the right direction unless otherwise!!

If Girardi had any guts, he would send him to the bullpen then. But he has none, that is why he plays the same "old" vets. "His" guys regardless. That is why after they make a half hearted bunt attempt he just lets them hit away. And that is why they were 2-35 RISP in Boston and worse in Baltimore before that.

Some days yes, some days no. Andy won't get shredded either.

It's very similar to the BS Leyland has been pulling this year.

Watching the Mariners struggles with young players, I understand why Girardi prefers veterans; they aren't necessarily better, but you know what they can and cannot do. With young guys, you not only don't know if they can play at the major league level, you don't know what type of player they are--is this guy a starter or maybe a closer? Line drive hitter with pop, or a singles hitter?

Girardi has never excelled at developing young talent; it will be interesting to see what happens this winter if the Yankees are serious about getting younger and cheaper.

I hope they do. Give the Red Sox credit, they knew that bus wasn't going anywhere. This is the same team that has folded the last two years in the play offs. It has maxed out. Move all you can and get faster and younger. That includes Granderson. .230 guys that strike out 170+ times are not needed. Those homeruns may get you some real value in return. His contract runs out after next year. No way do you lock him up for $70 million for five years when your best prospects are a C ( sanchez) and two of, one a CF.

dickerson and Nunez are not rookies.

and why the yankees closer wants out of option? is this means a extension in his contract?? if i was the yankees, i would let him go and try the market just like that!!!
