PSU sticking with unique approach to fourth downs

08:20 AM ET 09.14 | Bill O'Brien has in the past dropped the hints he was a risk-taker, and those hints have become statements on the field. Nearly every time someone asked [O'Brien] about Penn State's punting game, he would give a formulaic response. He had faith in punter Alex Butterworth and wanted to see him gain consistency. Then he tacked on a reminder: Penn State could always go for it. In two games, the Nittany Lions have done just that. They have gone for it on fourth down seven times and converted five of those attempts. In those games, the Nittany Lions have punted the ball once more than they have attempted a play on fourth down. O'Brien said going for it is part of his preset game plan and will continue to be.

Somehow, spamming a PSU thread seems even more futile than the other ludicrous attempts.

Kind of like being a door to door bible salesman in Saudi Arabia.

I lost many screen names pummeling PSU on the ESPN boards. I am done with them now though. They're in a more embarrassing downward spiral then even my Hogs are.

I lost the majority of the UEM's on the PSU boards. Very sensitive people. Very enabling bunch of people as well.

I'll post it again: The PSU team should take the field and play their hearts out every minute, every down. The PSU fans should fill the stadium EVERY home game. Even if the outcome of their season is 0-12, they will have achieved a victory of sorts, a catharsis and a renewal of spirit.

I forgot who it was, just remember him saying that odds are better when not giving your opponent the ball.

5 out of 7 is better than many teams do on 3rd down. He might as well go for it.

With that FG kicker, he needs to go for it.
