08:21 AM ET 09.14 | While it wasn't exactly begging for forgiveness, Lane Kiffin offered an apology Thursday for USC's suspension of a Los Angeles Daily News reporter. [The reporter] was banned from practice and games for two weeks after reporting kicker Andre Heidari had undergone knee surgery and would be out three weeks. The suspension was lifted Wednesday as an agreement is being worked out between the school's athletic department and editors from The Orange County Register, Los Angeles Times and Daily News on what can be reported from in-season practices. "There's not necessarily a right or wrong," Kiffin said. "The editors and our people are gong to try and get together so you people can do your job the best you can and also for us not (to compromise) a competitive advantage."

In answer to yesterday's question, I do sense Pat's presence behind the scenes.

Man!!! I'm glad they got that cleared up. The season was in the balance as it continued to fester.

Pat Haden is (and always was) a "class act." As long as Lane stays "in line" with Haden's vision for USC Football he will be given limitless opportunities (multiple years) to succeed there. If not, I don't believe any amount of success will keep him in his job.

Correction: Layla puts Lane on the Couch.

Unsubstantiated reports have Layla lambasting Lane over the nonsensical reporter access flap. Purportedly, she took him to task and told him in no uncertain terms that she and the kids liked Southern California and were staying put if he fouled up his dream gig at USC and was forced to move on.

OK, someone clue me in here. Does CFB have a published weekly required injury report status like the NFL? Example: (Probable, Questionable, Doubtful, Out). If not, why not? Rabid gamblers in Vegas would like to know. And if not, should it be required? Is there a privacy issue at work here?

No, it is not required.

Frag the gamblers. Let the university athletic departments set their own disclosure policies. NCAA needs to delegate this one.

Well, this story flip flops what I foresaw should happen. The mea culpa should have come from the reporter for abridging USC policy. Them he and Lane could kiss and make up, and the USC publicity machine could go back to running like a tuned up, twin-turbo V8.
