Pelini facing heat at Nebraska

08:21 AM ET 09.14 | Conventional wisdom in Lincoln holds that Nebraska would always play stout defense under Bo Pelini. Now, for the first time, a considerable slice of the Husker fan base doesn't seem to trust Pelini to do what he does best. It's one thing to watch Bo's team lose 14-7. But seeing the Blackshirts fail shakes the foundation. Isn't this why he was hired? Pelini has experienced ups and downs in five years. But he's never faced issues this critical so early in a season. As he brainstorms, the public grows restless. ... Pelini must answer those critiques not with words, but with performance. Starting Sept. 29, Nebraska plays five straight losable games. If the Huskers want to be relevant in November, they need to win at least three.

The days of the black shirts are long gone and have been for sometime. Apparantly those type of recruits are going to BAMA and LSU.

Let 'em wear red.

Three out of five atop their current record makes them relevant in November? Seems a generous assessment from the World-Herald.

Listening to Nebraska fans talk about the blackshirts is like listening to aggy fans talk about the wrecking crew. Neither has been aruond since the 90s.

I was just typing...

Do I dare say, and no offense justsayin' and other coc'ers, they are a lot like atm?

Had 2 periods of success, during questionable recruiting times, rarely beat OU after WW2, and haven't done anything of real note since their schedule included more than 1 real game after the weak b8 days.

Big Red has lost 4 games every season under Pelini. This is Nebraska football we are talking about here, I am surprised he is still their coach.

How big a deal is the Chase Rome defection? What exactly did he and Pellini disagree about?

I was at the '03 Alamo Bowl and was among the throng chanting "We want Bo!", and was as excited as anyone when Dr Tom announced the hire. But the things I've seen tell me that he is not the one to lead us back to dominance. Our historical strangths have always been our O-Line and the defense, and neither is getting any better. The Defense has had it's ups and downs over the past few years, but the O-Line has continued a downward spiral since Dr Tom left in '97.

All that being said, I think there's still hope, with the right person running the show. I remember after Miami spanked us in the '92 Orange Bowl, everyone was writing us off as the past, unable to recruit and compete. But then Osborne went out and got the right athletes and returned us to greatness. It can happen again, but not with Pelini. With him, we're a division-title-every-few-years team....

Although it was more of a one off... I would refer you to the last year Suh was there. You know, the one where Nebraska's offense was absolutely terrible and they still almost ruined Texas' champ bid. Fantastic defense that year.
But yes, that was 1 or 2 out of the last 10 or 15 years.

I thought they made a mistake getting rid of Solich, but what do I know except Switzer owned Osborne!!! (stir stir) Around here we calld Dt Tom the King's Jester!!! (another spoon) I will admit though one of the funnest road games I have ever attended was in Lincoln a few years back. Hospitable fans with knowledge, rarely see that in this day and age!
