09:35 AM ET 09.15 | Manager Don Mattingly will return next season. General Manager Ned Colletti confirmed Friday that the Dodgers intend to honor the final year of Mattingly's contract, which expires at the end of the 2013 season. The decision to retain Mattingly will not be affected by whether the Dodgers reach the postseason, Colletti said. Entering Friday, the Dodgers were 71/2 games behind the first-place San Francisco Giants in the National League West and two games back of the St. Louis Cardinals for the second of two wild card spots.

He was the hitting coach for a team that couldn't hit. They made him manager, and they still can't hit. I hope they keep him forever + one day.

I thought he did a good job of coaxing wins out of a couple of stars and a bunch of triple A players. The infusion of talent came too late for this year, but next year LA should be in good shape. They will probably need a new catcher but even if Ellis returns to form, the rest of the team should hit and field well.

In other news, water to remain wet, sky expected to be blue, and politicians will continue to be cheating liars.

Mattingly keeping his job wouldn't surprise me nearly as much as if Ned Colletti keeps his job.

wiseup : That is a no brainer. what was the issue?

Wiseup: It's like the old joke. How can you tell if a politician is lieing? When his lips move.

this guy should take a look himself in a mirror, can't see how horrendous record he has with the dodgers?? i mean unexcuseable regardless of the weather or the dust this team needs to win a pennant in order to prove me wrong, mattingly shouldn't return!!!!

both guys should hit the road,, they have nothing good about their positions, can't manage can't win,,,

when you can't win conssistent games, when you have been awarded with top players and still can't win, then you need to step down there is nothing else to prove here, and yes mattingly should not return,,,

wiseup: If you get rid of Riggleman who do you replace him with. Kirk Gibson? Mattingly Has the better record. Plus Kemp was injured much of year. They have had starters in any combination on DL , And still do.. The Giants have been able to stay healthy, other than at 3rd base . Sandaval has been off and on DL. the giants pitching for most part has had great years. Mattingly will do fine in LA. with a healthy Kershaw and Lilly, also a healthy Kemp will also help.

Wiseup: OOOps I had a brain cramp. My Last post I typed Riggleman instead of Mattingly I tried to change it before it was saved But was too late. ust have been in a time warp.

It would be great if someday mattingly was able to managing the yankees

If it don't work out in 13 they can either buy a high profile manager or hire an ex Dodger manager such as Gibson who probably will be available if the DBacks don't make the playoffs in 13.
