10:15 AM ET 09.15 | The NHL Players' Association over the past few weeks has been pitching the idea of a multi-game exhibition tournament featuring Canadian and Russian NHL stars, the Star has learned. The union has had preliminary discussions about the possibility of an eight-game series in November split between Russia and Canada, assuming the league locks out its 700-some players this weekend. The players association is floating the idea of a tournament to broadcasters and sponsors because it's scrambling to generate money, believing cash payments to players might help even the playing field in their battle against the NHL's well-heeled owners, who, in past negotiations, have proven they can outwait players for a better labour contract.

Just like the NHL.. NOBODY WILL WATCH

And Crosby will be playing for the Russians...so should anyone else that opts to play in the khl during a lock-out.
My view is...if players want to go there and play, then fine...as long as they are obliged to have to make a commitment to that team and honour it when the NHL re-starts.
I really don't know why a team would want a rent-a-player anyways...it only will provide false hope and disappointment to their fans come the play-offs...unless the likes of Malkin etc...have to make a commitment.

And...they are not inviting the Swedes because...?
Fear of losing. LOL

No one cares, Fehr... any more than anyone cared about the barnstorming you proposed for baseball players in the 90's.

50/50 is fair - do a deal!

Really. The Russkies have stars??

Interesting that both of today's articles were lifted from Toronto papers. Probably because nobody else gives a rat's ass about this particular issue. I'm just sayin'

It might be a better idea to have a touring NHL all-star team engage in a series of 'friendlies' (as they say in soccer) and splitting the pot with the home teams for these extra games. Nobody is taking somebody else's job, just wealth creation ...

Canada-Russia series hell yeah...good idea..ill definately tune in to see that.

Exactly Otis. 50/50is more than fair and the NHLPA is being led by the biggest assshat in sports history. I have zero sympathy for the players on this issue and this idea of Fehr's is stupid.

You do realize that even if it happened (which it won't), it would be akin to an NHL All-Star game. No defense, no hitting, no intensity, no nuttin.
