Stanford upset exposes USC problems

09:33 AM ET 09.16 | Lying flat today is Matt Barkley, tossed around in a backfield that became a dangerous place without injured center Khaled Holmes, leveled by poor communication with receivers that resulted in consecutive interceptions, the golden boy all bronzed. Lying next to him is Coach Lane Kiffin, who began the week by causing a silly distraction with the media and ended it overseeing a team that followed his lead by playing undisciplined and, well, distracted. Scattered along the edges of the canvas are a battered Trojans defense feeling most of the pain of the 10 scholarships removed by probation, and a kicking game that somehow, amazingly, does not have a field-goal kicker.

I would just like to take a moment and wish the top ranked Trojans a speedy recover.

All we heard all summer is how the lack of scholarships would not be felt, yet this thread says it is a big part of why they lost. Go figure.

Colonel no one, at least not me, never said that " lack of scholarships would not be felt". Stanford is not really that bad of a team. Stanford has lost only two "regular" season games the last two year and both were to Oregon. Stanford QB isn't all that bad this year. Give Stanford some credit, they were ready for USC last night!!!

+1. The Cardinal may have run out of luck but they're still pretty good.

Looks like your Irish succeeded in making the B1G look like a paper tiger once again, Van. What's ND's chances against TSUN?

If the same team shows up that witnessed last night in East Lansing, Big Blue in going down!!

Yeah, as the sign said last night, "Luck had nothing to do with the victory"!!!!

So with the loss who is this weeks Heisman winner.

ESPiN commentators last night said "Barkley's Heisman hopes went up in smoke"

IMO that's classles. There is plenty of time for redemption.

And what's up with the Bruins! The only thing changing more than the climate is CFB.

Van, congrats on the win yesterday!!! I must admit the Irish did look good!!! Who said that the Irish, Stanford or USC have a easy schedule this year??? :-)

Well and its worse than that to me. They were struggling finding and signing quality lineman 2 years ago. i think that doesn't get better over the next few years with the limits and all those skill players they recruited are going to have more trouble finding holes and time to play.

FJJ, congrats on the win last night, the Horns looked good.
