Nebraska ready to bring back Burkhead

08:19 AM ET 09.17 | No one wants to rush Nebraska running back Rex Burkhead back to action, but the time may be coming. If [Burkhead] feels ready, and team doctors approve, this would be a logical week to send him back into the fray. Let him regain some rhythm against Idaho State -- give him 10 carries or so. Then turn him loose Sept. 29 against Wisconsin in the Big Ten opener. How's the Nebraska senior running back feeling? "He's getting there," Husker running backs coach Ron Brown said Saturday. "He's awfully close." We keep hearing that. We can't be sure. We can say for certain Burkhead walks without a limp and watches from the sideline without a brace on his injured left knee (sprained MCL).

The flu can hit anyone hard if you're overworking yourself and not treating it right. He probably thought he could just work right through it.

Dont know the spread yet but I'd take Nebraska at home this Saturday. Idaho st Holt arena holds 12,000. Wow,, why does Nebraska schedule these teams?

Only teams that want a payday will play us at home....last year we had to schedule Tenn Chatt. because someone backed out on us.

If Bo blows it this season Big Red should go after Bobby Petrino, so what if he's got a thing for a younger women. Thats his personal business.

COC ain't the same without Rex Burkhead. He's one heckuva football player.

I think having Rex in the game makes us better because of the things he can do and other teams know he's a triple threat but we're starting to learn we can run the ball pretty well without him, Beck just needs to keep pounding the run and then T-Mart's passing game will open up more. We got away from that at UCLA and it killed us....

A good running back can make a big difference for a team. Did you see Cal's Brendan Bigelow versus my Buckeyes? Big time speed plus balance, USC better be ready for him next week.

The biggest problem Pelini has is that he has let the defense go bad. He got a break early on with some of Callahan's recruits (like Ndamukong Suh), but the last couple of years the D deserves red capes rather then black shirts.
