08:24 AM ET 09.17 | While lots was happening as the lockout set sail, very little was actually getting done to save it. Locked-out players began securing spots overseas and the NHL launched a public-relations offensive Sunday, but no labor negotiations took place on the first day of a stoppage imposed late Saturday by Commissioner Gary Bettman. ... "Bettman and the owners are following a playbook. We've seen it in 2004, we've seen it more recently in the NFL and the NBA," [Prominent agent Allan Walsh] said. "Players love the game, which has historically been used against them by the power brokers in the NHL going back to the 1920s. I don't think Gary cares about the game, the players or the fans. He's going for the pot of gold again."

This from an agent, not the most trustworthy group on the planet when it comes to putting the interests of the game before those of those of their clients.

When the next Cup is handed out (in 3 years), I'm buying tickets just so I can throw a very large, exploding rock at the guy who hands it off.

You'll need a lot of practice to hit so small a target from a distance, dl.

They often don't put the interests of their clients ahead of themselves. It's very hard to find anybody to root for in these continuing debacles. Agent's.........no..........ownership.....no (and that includes the Dwarf).........players...........sometimes (but not their Fehrless leader).........press.........no, they actually like this stuff. The only folks I really have any sympathy for are the ticket sellers and gate people, vendors, parking lot attendants, ushers, janitors you know the thousands of people who work in and around the games for a few bucks and depend on the money to help pay bills

I was going to say....Mr. Pot...may I present Mr. Kettle? (or in Dwarfus Horibilius' case....Mr. bedpan....)

I couldn't agree more, these are the real victims here....

No doubt about it.

The NHL got what it wanted from the last lockout. The players were willing to play until a new contract was reached. Owners voted 30-0 for this lockout.

This is shocking coming from an agent. What's next, an owner agreeing with Gary.

September 17, 2012  10:00 AM ET

We all knew the lockout was coming, so on to my real dilemma that I need help with...for my birthday in June I was given a gift cert to the NHL shop. There were some problems with the card, so only this weekend was it set up properly for me to actually buy stuff with it. So what do I do with it now? Buying stuff now validates the lockout and is against my stance of not giving the league any of my money, but waiting until the lockout is over will also validate the lockout and pin me as one of those fans that will "flock" back. But then again, it wasn't my money in the first place.
