Browns already desperate

08:03 AM ET 09.18 | Only two weeks in, Cleveland finds itself on the wrong end of NFL history. [If] the Browns lose to the Bills (1-1) on Sunday and fall to 0-3, they can pretty much kiss their playoff chances goodbye. Since 1990, only three teams have started 0-3 and made the playoffs. The most recent team to achieve the feat was the Bills (1998). "We've got to win his game," Shurmur said. As it is, the Browns are already facing long odds. Since 1990, only 12 percent of teams starting 0-2 (22-of-184) -- have made the postseason. "We need to do what we can to win this football game against a team that's coming off a big victory [35-17 over Kansas City]," he said. ... If they lose Sunday, the season could slip away in a hurry.

They kissed this year's playoff chances goodbye in 2002.

I was reading this morning that the NFL has set a record by having 20 teams at 1-1 after week 2 of the season. Who keeps goofy records like this?

But, at 1-1, Buffalo should not feel good about themselves, either. The Browns and the Bills should just use the coin toss to decide the game, and everyone can go back to the parking lot and drink beer.

They'll still make the playoffs yo.

September 18, 2012  08:31 AM ET

Wow. I don't know what they smoke up in Cleveland, but I want some. Playoffs? Cleveland was one of the lead pipe guarantees not the make the playoffs heading into this season.

Hellooooo, Matt Barkley. Although, after Saturday night, even that might not sound good to Cleveland fans.

September 18, 2012  08:47 AM ET

According to the Mayans, there will be no playoffs this year.

The Mayans haven't made the playoffs in over 200 years, not since their QB, Quetzacotl, went down with an ACL in the game against the Conquistadores.

Pretty ironic that a college football discussion breaks out on a Browns Thread....
