The next Manning?

08:04 AM ET 09.18 | We may be witnessing the final stages of the NFL transitioning to a new crop of elite quarterbacks. Not that Peyton Manning should be harshly judged because he had one unfortunate performance after a missed season with four neck injuries. But does anyone else see a young Manning in Matt Ryan? A more mobile Peyton? Ryan was Joe Montana-like cool, Manning-like accurate and Manning-like intelligent in leading the Atlanta Falcons , who defeated the Broncos and error-plagued Manning. ... Ryan was way above the grading curve in his first four regular seasons but the postseason has been his albatross. He and the Falcons have lost three consecutive playoff games. Funny, when Manning was with the Indianapolis Colts, he started 0-3 in the postseason too.

How about winning a playoff game first.

September 18, 2012  08:08 AM ET

Based on Manning's performance last night, the Falcons hope not.

Nah dawg.

Ugly, ugly game. Broncos weren't ready to play and neither were the refs.

Unlike most night games when I only watch the first half, I ignored this one completely. (Note to sponsors: That means I didn't see your ads.) Somebody at work said the first quarter took an hour, because of these ersatz officials. That true?

We've seen enough of Matt Ryan to know he's not the next Peyton Manning. Unless he shows up with Deion in fairy wings.

Deion was in Dallas yesterday...but was wingless.

As were the rest of the Cowboys on Sunday. After the first week I was ready to give them the division. Now it doesn't look like anyone can win it.

This year looks to be a wild scramble.

I don't think he's much of a Payton. Maybe more like slightly better Rivers or Romo.

That was discouraging...

But I'll wait until after October 14 before I pass my educated opinion on them. That's when the play the Ravens... we all will have a better read on them after that.

Ryan gets $72 million for these first six years. The next six could add up to some real change.
