08:14 AM ET 09.18 | Bryan LaHair's strong start to this season has faded well into the rear view mirror. With Anthony Rizzo ensconced at first base and David DeJesus moving to right field so Brett Jackson can start in center, LaHair hasn't had many chances to show he can revert to his early-season form. Since July 4, he has only two home runs. What should LaHair do this offseason to help make his case in 2013? "I think for his sake he needs to go play winter ball again and get those at-bats he's missed out on and be ready for spring training," manager Dale Sveum said. ... Sveum did not give any false hope to LaHair. "It kind of goes unsaid, if Rizzo is healthy, playing time is going to be tough to find," Sveum said.

Dear interns, I hope you used air quotes when referring to LaHair as an All Star around the intern cubicles.

The answer is simple, you try to move 12 in the off season to give LaHair a chance to be a starting outfielder on the North Side.

Agreed, but the list of GMs dumb enough to take on Soriano is a short one.

What does that have to do with it? I'm not saying Soriano doesn't add any value.....I'm saying he has one of the worst contracts in baseball. They would have moved him two years ago if anyone was willing to take him.

You didn't get the point of my comment whatsoever. They've been trying to move him for years, but no one will take on his contract, or his defense. I was responding to post #2 that said they should move him. I agree with that, but my point is that it won't be easy to move that contract or they would have done it a long time ago.

It will probably be easier to move LaHair than Soriano. Soriano is old and getting 19 million per year; LaHair is younger and getting 482,000 per year. Cubs can just cut LaHair and eat the salary if they want to; can't do that with Soriano, though.

LaHair turns 30 in November. He's a AAAA hitter with power that had a hot streak. He's lucky to have a roster spot in the majors. He's not a future star. If he hangs onto a slot as back up OF/1B he should be very happy.

when a player doesn't have the talent to be a everyday player in the lineup, when the player lacks in the capability and durability where the conssistent is missing in every game, then this player should be used as a utility player and nothing else!!!

Speaking of Utility players - how can they think starting David DeJesus in RF is gonna be a positive?
I'd say he adds speed to the line-up, but he only has 7 steals.
