08:25 AM ET 09.18 | Perhaps Francois Allaire, who confirmed Monday that he wouldn't be returning to the Maple Leafs, had different expectations when he left Anaheim to become Toronto's goaltending consultant. But three years later, everything is still the same. And Allaire is calling it quits. In a phone interview Monday, the 55-year-old confirmed that he is not returning to the Leafs this season, having decided there is nothing more he can do to improve the goaltending situation. "To be honest, I don't think the Leafs need a goalie coach," said Allaire. ... "I think they have enough of them. They have two or three guys who were making decisions with the goalies. In the NHL, that's not the way it works. If that's the way they want to operate, then I'm not there."

HIP HIP HOORAY!
That is the best news out of Leaf Land that I've heard in 3 years~!
Thank heavens Frank, being such a wiener, got the message he's not wanted in Toronto. Too bad Burke didn't figure it out earlier...and should have sent his arse packing a long time ago.

TORONTO - Mere months after calling Francois Allaire "the best goalie coach on the planet," Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke would do nothing more on Monday than confirm that Allaire had left the club, saying he had no further comment.
He still doesn't get it Puckhead.

Allaire is the only reason I think Shortside might have a chance in Detroit. He was teaching him a goaltending style that simply didn't work for him, and rather than adapt, he just kept pushing it on him.

Francois Allaire is terribly upset that Lord Irk got rid of his protege, Jonas Gustavsson. That's unforgivable.

Sad but true Canuck eh?
Allaire was a disease to the young goalies and the team.
Personally, I never got it, Allaire, in the first place.
There was a reason that the Leafs had more Goals Against the last 5-years then most teams...The defense was not or could not be entirely blamed.
When the Team Goalie lets the team down over and over, confidence is lost and the guys in front of him cannot execute as they normally would or could...We've all seen it and if ever played the game, felt it.
It's like a guy that keeps getting in car accidents...he just finally lets go of the wheel and says to himself, oh no...not again.
Burke has done some good things in Toronto with what he was left with from the onset...but Goal tending...and by extension, Allaire has been a major reason why Burke watched that 18 wheeler go off the cliff. Thankfully, Allaire saw how useless he was even if Burke didn't.
The guy was and did, spoil decent prospects and goalies in the system with his predictable system and placing it on guys that just could not adjust to it after playing for years and getting to the NHL under different styles that "worked" for them.
Without solid goaltending, it really doesn't matter who is in front of him. Unless it was with the possible exemption of Gretzky's Oilers of the 80's.
