Base-running gaffe lands Cub in the doghouse

The Cubs won't have the Astros to look down on next season. I haven't seen anything yet to show this team is poised to turn things around.

Sveum should have sent a message to his club and bench Valbuena for the rest of the game and let him play with his glove at the end of the bench.

Valbuena's singular base-running gaffe gets a much harsher punishment that Castro's multiple base-running gaffes, not to mention all of Starlin's fielding gaffes. Way to coddle your "superstar" who has a .747 OPS, Sveum.

Yeah, this is the first year of unloading the current big-leaguers for whatever you can get; next year will be more of same, plus calling up a few from the minors to see if they can play. Year after will be the team of the young guys. The year after that (about 2015) they might be competitive.

I don't know why teams don't just tell their fans what they are in for when rebuilding; I suppose they figure it would kill season ticket sales for the next 3 years.

Rizzo looks like a nice pick-up, though.

Well when you are 35 games out of first place and your "lovable loser fans" don't care, I can see forgetting to stay on the bag. Apparently, the 3rd base coach was asleep at the wheel or trying to catch some eye candy in the stands, which is hard to do in Chicago.
