Kiffin ditches press meeting in 28 seconds flat

08:19 AM ET 09.20 | In under half a minute, Lane Kiffin may have spoken volumes about the state of USC football in 2012. When asked about a player's participation in practice three days before USC plays Cal on Saturday, Kiffin adjourned his Wednesday press gathering in 28 seconds flat. ... The explanation might be as simple as the heat that he's feeling. The Trojans escaped bowl probation, but suddenly were ranked No. 1 nationally and expected to capture Heisman Trophies and BCS national championships. Watch one quarter of any Alabama or LSU game and you realize what a fantasy that was. And when injuries become termites that start chewing on a thin depth chart, the Trojans become vulnerable, especially on the road against an experienced defense.

Good for Kiffin. Journalists are like flies. Swatting them is usually best.

Just pushing buttons. Press red button to end press conference.

This doesn't surprise me.

Whether they like it or not, they do have an obligation to their school, their fan base and the press to show up, act somewhat less than a total moron and give a solid, if not somewhat bias state of the union weekly. Just shows how much of a donkey he is constantly!! EGOMAN

Well I like it when a coach treats the media like dogs because ... they are dogs. Saban is good at it, Parcells was good at it, Jimmy Johnson was the best.

Bob Knight was the best.

Stoops actually does a good job of making the idiots look like idiots but respecting those who do their job properly!!! I just think leaving the presser is punishing those who are working FOR the school and the team, not against them!

Stay classy Kiffin! And if I understand right, the questions were simply about which players practiced?

September 20, 2012  09:10 AM ET

I love to watch this guy fail.

Saban's is all an act, though. He loves it when they ask dumb questions so he can rant. He even told a reporter after ranting at him that he wasn't mad at him, but that he was trying to send a message to the team.

Secretly, Coach Saban is very happy about Mel Kiper's overrated comments. He loves that stuff because it makes it easier to get his message across. You are never "there". You always have to keep improving. Keep getting better.

His daddy should change his pee pee diaper more often.

Kiper is a self-aggrandizing blowhard! All he has is an "act" I've never understood why folks consider him an expert.

I like Bill Belichick's way of dealing with the press--give them nothing, ever!
It's the ol' mushroom treatment, keep them in the dark and pile on lots of manure/fertilizer.
Drives the Boston and New England media crazy, and he could care less.

Can you imagine a panel consisting of Saban, Stoops and Leach answering stoopid media questions? I would pay to see that ....

Agreed, every time I see him on TV, especially after High School signing day and during the NFL draft, I feel like I need to take a shower after watching him, smarmy, phony, self-important and usually more often wrong than right.

Parcells is my all time favorite, although Ditka was pretty good and some of his are on youtube.

"Coach, Ditka, do you think..."
"NO, next question!"
"Coach Ditak, would you say..."
"NO, next question!"

And his hairstyle went out of style when Eddie Munster and his show left the air.
