Defining moment in Dooley's career looms

08:23 AM ET 09.20 | A loss to Florida didn't much help Derek Dooley this past Saturday. Yes, there is a sizable percentage of UT nation that wants Dooley gone today. That's simply not going to happen. It may happen before Christmas, but it's certainly not in the cards in the next week to 10 days. ... So for the sake of discussion, we can all agree that Dooley is going to be the coach of the UT football team at least for the next few weeks, right? So let's evaluate where the Vols go from here. Akron should not be that much of a problem on Saturday, but the trip to Georgia -- to Dooley's hometown, no less -- is shaping up to be the defining moment of his career. Yes, it seems that Dooley's Vols have a defining game or a season-shaping chance every other week.

Jeez....did I miss something. I know he has been on the hot seat but did he lose to ULM then lose 52-0 at home. No he lost to a pretty good Florida team. Now if they struggle against Akron and get blown out or just look bad against both DAWG teams, then fire him.

Loss to UGAly wouldn't necessarily hurt DD...that would be an expected loss (depending on how the Dawgs are doing then)....but Oct 13 is shaping up to be another game where Moo State can be detrimental to another coach.

Tennessee has a chance to win the rest of it's games except for the 'Bama game. Yes I'm saying they can beat <cough cough overrated) Georgia and South Carolina. Those can be Dooley's "defining moments"

From what I heard, those in Knoxville Creamsicle did take the loss well. Some completely ungentlemanly behavior was displayed. Night and day difference from the Aggies.

In talking with my Vol buddies after the game (when they were all wearing Gator hats......I'm glad I won the bet!), they said that the Athletic Dept was $10 million in the hole last year with previous coach buyouts and lack of revenue. They felt that the school couldn't buy out Dooley anytime in the next couple years. Has anyone else heard that?

I heard they didn't take the loss well. The whole Vol nation felt this was their year. Even the Knoxville police announced people would be arrested if they rushed the field after the game.

Surely they can find some deep pocketed donor to help out with those issues, if not ask Satan if he has any left in his slush fund to get him a stronger SOS for coming schedules!

Yes, they will always find money for the right coach. But, who can UTk steal to become the next head coach? After Kiffin and Dooley, they must excite their fan base (and deep pocketed donors) with the next hire.

So much so they rushed the opposite direction mid 4th quarter.

I had to lay the troll gauntlet on my Vol acquaintances hard this weekend after the week of taunting they gave me. 8 in a row, baby!
