Work stoppage L.A.'s blessing in disguise

08:24 AM ET 09.20 | One school of thought suggests, on the grounds that the lockout stalls momentum, that the Kings stand to lose big in the event of a prolonged work stoppage. The fact is, in a weird way, the lockout could be a blessing in disguise for the defending champions. ... If the season starts two months late, then chances are the rest of the league -- especially the 14 teams that missed the playoffs altogether -- could find the layer of rust thickening on their collective bodies. The Kings, meanwhile, might get just the right amount of rest, and just the right amount of recovery time. It doesn't mean they'll necessarily win again, but it could give them a better chance to defend their title than if the season had started on time.

It's a pre-school of thought.

yep...the stoppage will actually hurt the Kings and the momentum they built up with new fans turning to hockey in that sport hotbed of a City.

Just when you think you've seen the most stupid article ever written............something like this turns up.

September 20, 2012  10:14 AM ET

I think the article was commenting more on how hard it is to repeat as champs after a long season and long post season leaving little time for teams to rest and recover. It's a valid point from that standpoint. If not a little obvious.

Maybe. I'm not as generous as you in assuming the Globe and mail exercises sentient reporting.

Perhaps the Kings all star Goalie will have enough time for his maturity to catch up to his ability.

Agreed, the difficulty of repeating as Champions is pretty obvious and the short off-season is a big part of it. Of course I don't know how the work stoppage is going to help alleviate that if all the union scabs are going to jet off to Europe or the Motherland to play anyway.

They probably don't care if he acts like Pee Wee Herman as long as he stops the puck.

Depends on how many play with other teams and how many games they play and how long the lockout goes. But, a shorter season that starts in December or January will certainly help the Kings chances.

It's like someone hitting my car, I come out and say "I like my door dented in like that." Paint a delusional picture for the awful that is transpiring.

Added note, this has happened to me and I did not like the way my door was. However, he did keep me from dating fat chicks, as the door would only open so wide.
