The fact is, in a weird way, the lockout could be a blessing in disguise for the defending champions. ... If the season starts two months late, then chances are the rest of the league -- especially the 14 teams that missed the playoffs altogether -- could find the layer of rust thickening on their collective bodies. The Kings, meanwhile, might get just the right amount of rest, and just the right amount of recovery time. It doesn't mean they'll necessarily win again, but it could give them a better chance to defend their title than if the season had started on time.

Agreed, the difficulty of repeating as Champions is pretty obvious and the short off-season is a big part of it. Of course I don't know how the work stoppage is going to help alleviate that if all the union scabs are going to jet off to Europe or the Motherland to play anyway.

Depends on how many play with other teams and how many games they play and how long the lockout goes. But, a shorter season that starts in December or January will certainly help the Kings chances.
