08:17 AM ET 09.20 | Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen has heard enough. [Guillen] said it's time for his players to stop complaining about the spacious dimensions at Marlins Park. "We've got to deal with the ballpark, and we're going to be negative coming in here every day, 'Oh, this ballpark is too big'?" Guillen asked incredulously. "We've got to play in this ballpark 81 games and I don't want to hear any more (from) my players, my hitting coach, nobody with this uniform worry about this place (being) too big. ... Players have grumbled amongst themselves all season. But they became more vocal about the topic after John Buck just missed what would've been a game-ending home run by hitting a 418-foot fly out to end Sunday's game.

So Ozzie does not want his players talking " negative" stuff? Really? I suppose he considers that his private domain.

Personally, I prefer the bigger parks to the small bandboxes. That's where real baseball is played.

Don't bigger ballparks allow you to "hit it where they ain't"?

Well technically, "they ain't" in the stands. But yeah.

After the season is over if management thinks their team is in a disadvantage they will move the fences in to accommodate the home team.

+ 1 Million. Do the players that complain about the size of the park realize that the other team is playing on the same field? More home runs does not equal better baseball.

If Marlin's Park had the same dimensions as the field in Philly, Giancarlo Stanton would break every homerun record that ever existed. The kid is a monster.

Successful organizations obligated to play in multi-purpose fields in the 70's adapted by signing players to build a team to use the field to their advantage.
Whitey Herzog reversed a pitiful StL Cardinals team, who'd wallowed in the vast cookie cutter bowl of Busch II, by bringing in defense and speed combined with contact hitters capable of plugging the gaps.
Those who say that both teams must play on the same diamond are right on target, so use their power hitting sluggards to your advantage, while running them ragged chasing line drives and balls into the corners.
The pitching staff certainly benefits in such conditions and be forgiven for a lot of mistakes that would be souvenirs elsewhere.
They place is a joke, but ya gotta play the hand you're dealt, heh Ozzie.

If pitchers know a hitter can't reach the fences, they pitch differently. If they fall behind in the count they don't walk the batter, they go after him. So the team needs to select a different type of hitter than the usual fly-ball/walk/strikeout guy. Which means they need to draft and develop a different type of hitters. Their scouts will need to evaluate potential draft choices differently. It may take a while for this reality to permeate the organization.
Or else bring in the fences, then no-one has to change anything.

I'd be complaining more about that stupid homerun statue thing they have.
