08:00 AM ET 09.21 | Week 2 wasn't a good one for the men in stripes, but they do have a powerful lobby. In the wake of a tough weekend for replacement officials ... several senior NFL officials made phone calls Thursday to the owners, general managers and coaches from all 32 teams in an effort to rein in on-field behavior. "The purpose was to send a message that everyone has a responsibility on respect for the game," NFL executive vice president Ray Anderson explained by phone Thursday night. "Everyone needs to be mindful that this respect for the game has to be practiced at all times, and that the events of Monday evening, in the first half of that game, represented unacceptable behavior."

'respect for the game'. How are the senior officials respecting the game when they have grocery baggers and fry guys out on the field officiating the games?

In other words...
"You vill play zee game and you vill like it..."
And in the meantime - the real ref's will continue to be locked out.

Why not just get the real Refs back and field the best personnel they have? Wouldn't that show respect for the game?

So, when is Goofdell going to send all the fans an e-mail and tell them to have respect for the game, too?
After all, in the end, if the fans don't have respect for the game, the NFL goes down the tubes. And right now, we have no respect for the Commissioner or any of his senior henchmen.
If only Bob Kraft weren't busy with his 30-something hottie. He'd sit this clown down and slap him around a bit until he understood who's the boss. Hmmm...maybe dress her in leather and give her a whip, and let her do the slapping. Nah, Goofdell would like that too much.

The NFL and RG takes the general public for fools in this fiasco. Their scumbag asses locked the players out and now the refs. This about greed for them, and only them. They now want the coaches to be quiet about their bush league replacements. Really? I guess they'll next ask the fans to look the other way and say whats happening it not happening. Putzs I'll say. This scam officiating is an embarrassment and there is no other way to put it. The NFL & RG are shamless!

What a friggin' hypocrite. We have the current officiating mess, talk of an 18 game schedule, two teams getting screwed by playing EVERY Thursday, rules changes due to fantasy football stats and folks are still forced to buy pre-season tickets at full fare. The league officials and most owners don't respect the game, the fans or the players. It's all about the money.

I'd like to see the real refs put up a picket line outside a stadium a couple of days before the game. Ask the Teamsters to honor it. No beer deliveries. No food deliveries. No cleaning supplies, and maybe even no TV coverage for that game.

The coaches and players play for keeps at this level. There is no way they are going to back off and try to be understanding of inept refs. The fact that these replacements are showing over and over again they can't control or keep up with the game is turning the whole season into a joke.

The fans who bought season tickets expect to see two professional teams both trying to win, and a competent job by everyone involved.
They aren't getting that, thanks to Roger Goofdell.

What if players, concerned for their safety, just took a knee on every play instead of actually playing? How would that go over? I'm sure the owners capable of doing math would see that concession and parking sales would more than pay for the real refs. Just a thought.
