Derek Jeter: Talk of changing teams is comical

08:37 AM ET 09.22 | Derek Jeter doesn't want to go anywhere. At the same time, he got his message across to the Yankees. When it comes time to negotiate again, they are going to have to pay to keep him in pinstripes for the rest of his career. Jeter yesterday clarified comments he made to ESPN's Rick Reilly in a recent Q&A. In the interview, Jeter was asked, "Peyton Manning changed teams this season after 14 seasons with the one team. Could you see yourself doing that?" Jeter responded, "Well, if I wanted to keep playing, yes. It's a business. People forget that." He added, "I think it's comical that we're talking about it after I told you guys time and time again, I can't picture myself playing anywhere else, have fun with it," Jeter added. "It's a business; there are two sides to a business, that's what the reference was. I've been asked this question 100 times and I told you guys the same thing."

Immediately, a few bucks. Long term, not a thing. What are the Reds getting out of it. It only benefits the player. When you think of 715, maybe the Braves enter your mind, but Hank Aaron is the hero, not Fulton County Stadium. So you might get a few weeks of buzz and extra sales, but the day after it happens, the circus will pull stakes and leave town like it does for every other record-setting.

Interesting that you bring up Rose. When the free agency era began, it was the established stars like Rose who were the first to jump to new teams, and it was due to negotiations in the past. Rose said something like "they make you feel like you are nothing, then offer a tiny bit." Now Jeter is responding to last year's negotiations by pointing out that "it's a business" is a line that has 2 sides to it. Sounds like management hasn't changed much.
