09:14 AM ET 09.22 | Longtime NFL official Jerry Markbreit, said Friday that Commissioner Roger Goodell is putting the health and safety of players such as the dynamic rookie at increased risk with the ongoing "travesty'' of replacement officials. "Commissioner Roger Goodell and (league counsel) Jeff Pash, who met with some of our negotiating guys for two days this week, accomplished nothing. "It's incredible they could jeopardize the safety and integrity of the league. My only conclusion is that they just don't care.'' Markbreit said the replacement officiating has "deteriorated,'' devolving into chippy, goonish skirmishes mostly found during NHL action.

" what officials made in 2011 amounted to 1/3 of 1% of a "$9 to $10 billion-a-year industry."

And there you have it. I don't care if some believe officials are paid well enough now. The American concept, we are told, is that when business thrives those tides lift ALL of the boats in that harbor.

Goodell does the owners bidding. He does not act on his own in this matter. Blame the owners. Greed.

Bah! Humbug!

Goodell is just the waterboy for 32 NFL owners. Don't blame the messenger. Blame the 32 owners who wrote the orders.

September 22, 2012  09:31 AM ET

This is laughable! First Goodell was criticized for trying to implement rules and fines to protect players. Now he's being criticized for jeopardizing the safety of the game. I guess it's also his fault that the players are testing the system, seeing how much illegal contact they can get away with ... the rules be damned!

I don't know what's more stupid: including the commissioner of the NFL in a list of ruthless dictators; or spelling half of the names of said dictators incorrectly.

These scabs are an embarrassment. They don't know the rules. They don't know the timing or the rhythm. And, they don't have proper field presence. I bet at least one scab loses his cool and tries to eject a head coach this weekend. Pathetic.

This issue will not be resolved until the first serious injuries OR on-field-riots start rolling in...week-by-week you can see the players pushing the envelope to see what they can get away with...
