09:21 AM ET 09.22 | The Buffalo Bills are closing in on a deal to extend their series of playing regular-season games in Toronto. "We'll be having an announcement on that," Rogers Communications vice chairman Phil Lind said Friday. Without providing a timeline, Lind said "It'll be soon." Bills CEO Russ Brandon said discussions with Rogers are continuing, and added: "We hope to announce a new deal in the near future." The Bills and Rogers, the Toronto-based media giant, already have NFL approval to extend the series once it expires after this season. Brandon said last week the two sides are expected to meet in early October. The extension is expected to be similar to the previous one, lasting five years and having Buffalo playing one annual regular-season game in Canada's largest city. It's unclear whether preseason games will be included in the extension.

This is the NFL's way of getting a foot in the door of the Canadian market. Buffalo may not be able to hold onto the Bills, and a short move across the lake would be sensible.
Now, the NFL will explore a team's geographical shift to LA. The Rams and the Jaguars are the logical candidates.

If this helps keep the Bills in Buffalo, then I guess I'm OK with it.

They are not going anywhere. This is about leverage with the State over a new stadium deal. The old we have other choices ya know.
The thing that bugs me is the owners got to keep an extra BILLION of the top in that last CBA deal. They said they needed it to build and refurbish stadiums for the long term "good" of the league. They need to be called out on it.

Toronto is not an option. These games have been fan flops there the last five years. It is only Bills fans going over the Peace bridge to Canada that gives the game any semblance of appeal.

Yeah... so let's see - which teams "need" a new stadium?
That's one damned short list.

Marketing... pure and simple. You and I both know that "fannies in seats" isn't near as important as selling the brand.

True, every owner starts the year with his money guaranteed from the share system. Add in the 60/40 split on attendance and every owner is a winner. MLB has failed in Canada, the NFL will in the long term too as a marketing device.

Bad enough placing an NFL team in Canada.
Now you're telling us that they're also going to plant a team in Mexico?

And moved to LA! The Los Angeles Bills has a certain ring to it. Although, to truly appeal to the locals there, they will have to change their logo to a dollar sign or a rolled up bill suitable for ingesting certain drugs through the nose.

Could be. But the value is down now and we all know it increases by 50% when you have a new stadium.
