How Big East may get 'guaranteed' bowl slot

To hell with guaranteed slots for conferences! The BCS has made a mockery of the bowl games due to guaranteed slots and the politics of selection. We fans just want to watch the best match ups possible.

You are correct.

While the past had guaranteed bowl slots (SWC was Cotton Bowl, Big 8 was Orange, Rose Bowl was Rose Bowl, etc), the bowls, except for the Rose which always had the same two conferences, usually tried to get the best game they could factoring in the capability of the opposing team to "travel"...but the BCS kind of messed all that up.

So here's the deal that was set up, but not officially accepted yet. A a 7th bowl will be part of the group, offering a guaranteed spot to the highest ranked team available. While there will be guaranteed spots for the conference champions from the ACC, Big 12, SEC, Pac-12 and Big Ten,, the other conferences, including the Big East, will also have a guaranteed slot for the highest ranked team from that group.

A conference commissioner has to negotiate with network TV execs and other conference commissioners to find a landing spot for his conference champion? What a political crock of ****!

Agreed 100%. It may take years to rid CFB of the politics of the BCS and get a real playoff.
