Bulls discussing Taj Gibson extension

09:45 AM ET 09.22 | Whether by coincidence or not, the Bulls have announced new deals for Rose and Joakim Noah just as they entered their fourth professional seasons, and now it could be power forward Taj Gibson's turn, as the front office has been engaged in discussions surrounding a long-term contract extension. "It's something we've been talking about for a while," Gibson's agent, Chicago-based Mark Bartelstein, told CSNChicago.com. "Gar and I have been putting a lot of work in. "Taj would love to be a Bull for a long time, there's no question about that." Gibson, a late first-round draft pick in 2009, was a revelation as a rookie, eventually being named to the NBA's all-rookie first team, then sacrificed his starting role for Carlos Boozer the past two seasons, although his defensive prowess, continued offensive development and knack for rising to the occasion in big moments has earned the trust of Thibodeau, who frequently has him on the floor at the end of games. However, as much as Bulls management values Gibson, the presence of Boozer, who has two years left on his current contract--though it should be noted that the organization could free themselves of his salary, at least as it relates to salary-cap purposes, by utilizing the amnesty provision that was included in the league's collective bargaining agreement--would seemingly make it tough to commit significant funds to players at the same position.

If the Bulls know like I know....they would get this deal done as quickly as possible. Taj is an animal and a piece they certainly need in order to both help Rose out and also to keep Rose in a Bulls uniform. Taj is the truth! "My bad.....Paul"!

They need to sign Taj but should sign him under $10 million a year. He is not worth the max if that's what he is asking. Maybe they should amnesty Boozer next year and go after Harden to play along side DRose...

It sounds like the plan (since Rose went down) has been to wait and amnesty Boozer next season, so this might not be too far off. Although I've heard talked of Phoenix offering the max to Harden, not sure he's worth that kind of money; but he would be a great compliment to Rose!

Taj Gibson is a man child who plays out of his mind. He's got flaws in his game but the Bulls need his energy. They've got to amnesty Boozer and go out and get Rose some legit scoring help in the post or a lights out 2-guard.
