09:49 AM ET 09.22 | JerShon Cobb injected enormous life into Northwestern's offense last season when he returned from hip soreness. The 6-foot-5 guard from Atlanta scored 24 points in NU's loss to Minnesota in the Big Ten tournament and dropped 19 (on 8-for-10 shooting) on Akron in NU's first-round NIT victory. But now Cobb is going back to the bench, and it's the result of off-the-court actions. Northwestern announced Friday that it was suspending Cobb for the 2012-13 season, citing "violations of team policy." A team spokesman said the violations do not involve legal trouble and that NU coaches expect Cobb to remain at Northwestern, where he would have two remaining years of eligibility. One team source said he was "very" confident Cobb would stay. Cobb is enrolled in classes and the release states that he "continues to be a part of the Wildcats' basketball program."

Stay in school kid. A degree from Northwestern will open a lot of doors after your basketball days are over.
