Angels owner admits Mike Scioscia's job is safe

09:28 AM ET 09.23 | In the clubhouse, Mike Scioscia went about his business last week with not even the slightest trepidation about his future. To him, the biggest issue surrounding the Angels was a non-issue. He would be back as the manager, and the decision already had been made. In the front office, no one would say that. Not for weeks. Not until late Saturday, when Angels owner Arte Moreno abruptly yielded to the outside pressure to which he and his lieutenants had vowed not to yield. Scioscia is indeed coming back. Yet, for a management team whose big decisions in recent years at times have appeared impulsive, the management of the Scioscia issue came straight from the "what not to do" page of the public relations handbook ??? let an issue smolder when you could stamp it out, then react to douse the flames you could have prevented in the first place. The Angels had offered no public assurance to Scioscia, the foundation of the team for the most successful decade in franchise history, until after a week in which local and national reporters peppered the organization with questions. Moreno took a look at stories on the CBS Sports and Fox Sports websites Saturday, and all of a sudden an organization that had pledged not to respond to what it called speculative stories decided to respond. "I've known all along that I am not changing my manager," Moreno told the team website.

Scioscia is a super manager, one of the few who makes a real difference in his team, but his time may have expired in Anaheim. It may be time for a change.
If so, another team (Detroit, Boston) would snatch him up in minutes.

Scioscia is not the Angels problem. He's one of the best managers in the game. Getting rid of him would be reactionary and wouldn't address their real problem (the bullpen).

The two teams who stole all of the headlines at the winter meetings the Marlins and Angels with their high profile signings may both get what they deserve nothing, for trying to buy their way into the playoffs.

Angels, Marlins, Were The Kings of the Winter Meetings, just goes to show you how dumb the baseball analysts on MLB and ESPN are and Detroit placed a close third, Guess what The Chisox were picked apart and they are in first place, go figure!!!

is not how he manages, is how things had gone this season, then again sciocia is my favorite manager in the big leagues, the angels have everything to do more than what they have done, and if the hitters refuse to use the basics that's not mike sciocia's fault, mark trumbo loves to swing at the first pitch forget the patience at the plate, albert pujols refuse to select the right pitch and likely he would grounded into a double play,,,
