Scar tissue causing Adrian Beltre's intestinal pain

10:54 AM ET 09.23 | The Rangers and 3B Adrian Beltre still don't have any definitive answers for what caused his rather intense stomach pain this week, but after a battery of tests, doctors told Beltre they are "90 percent" certain the issue is scar tissue buildup from a botched appendectomy 11 years ago. The appendectomy he had in January, 2001 led to an infection and an open wound that required a second surgery to fix two months later. He has been free of abdominal issues since. But the two surgeries left a significant amount of scar tissue in the lower right quadrant of his abdomen. While Beltre said he felt significantly better on Saturday, if the pain returns, he may require surgery to relieve some of the pressure the scar tissue may be exerting on his intestine. Beltre expressed confidence that if the pain returns, he would be able to play through the postseason before undergoing the surgery. Unlike the original procedure done in the Dominican Republic with a full 6-8 inch incision, removing scar tissue would likely require minimally invasive laproscopic surgery.
