Darker days ahead for Saints

08:03 AM ET 09.24 | The Saints woke up winless after Week 3, and they're staring down the obviously long odds of making the playoffs from that hole. At this stage, no one really knows, not the players, not the coaches. To me, that's what makes the future so desperately dark. ... My feeling is this team will remain a puzzle all year. Why? Because it has an offensive line that's a far cry from being anywhere near dominant on the physical side, a line, as a group that will make such stellar running backs like Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles earn every inch when they've got the football in their hands. And it has a defensive line that has shown it lacks the speed and quickness to defend the outside, that keeps surrendering the double-digit run.

Has there been that much turnover in the offensive and defensive lines since last year to warrant that criticism? I don't follow the Saints in that much detail, but I thought they were relatively stable.

This season should go down as "The Year of Any Given Sunday."

Vilma (LB) and Fujita (gone anyway), obviously. But the offensive line?

Blame it on the Coach. They sure need him.

Their defense stunk before Bountygate was revealed... and it hasn't gotten better.

Well I sure as hell got a two-for-one special yesterday. The Saints lost and Jamaal Charles was an absolute beast for my fantasy team.
Thanks buddy!

On a brighter note, it wasn't pretty, but your 'Boys are on top of the NFC East.

Not for long... they are on a pace for 165 penalties.
That ain't getting it done and good teams are going to kill us.
Like the Bears... next Monday night.

Not so sure. That is the best defense in Dallas in a long time. And without Ratliff playing. On a brighter note, it is always good when the Eagles get their butts handed to them.

Always...
But another note from that game - the Cardinals appear to be for real.

Any Given Monday. This season is completely unpredictable. The Vikes beat the Niners. Really? The Saints are winless. The Cardinals are undefeated. The Pats are tied with the Dolphins.
Maybe the Mayans were right. The Apocalypse is at hand.

Interim/Interim coach and new defensive coordinator all leads to a losing season for the Saints. Sure hope "Goody" Goodell is proud of himself. The lack of Sean Peyton's leadership sure shows. Drew Brees was in protracted negotiations to get his 10M a year based on breaking the passing yardage record last season. Well, he missed a lot of training camp and now he plays like a 2M man.
Saints will come around and be playing the spoiler role this season. They do need better defensive lineman and well as an upgrade on offensive line. Saints have not had a really good defensive lineman for years and Sean Ellis needs to go. He is a bust and not worth what he is being paid.
This is an "Any Given Sunday" season. If the Jets ever beat the Pats then my point will be proven. Or even The Fins beating the PATS.
Don' see much more Goodell can do to ruin the Saints season. Will have a double double the day that jerk is FIRED.

3 more games and then Joe Vitt is back, maybe that will help them out.
