Hurdle likely safe after another collapse

08:12 AM ET 09.24 | A far as Pittsburgh GM Neal Huntington is concerned, everyone is safe, despite consecutive late-season collapses. "I don't see making a change at any leadership position at this point in time," Huntington said Sunday. "I believe in the people I'm working with. I believe in what we're doing and how we're doing it." When it comes to his own job, Huntington is at the mercy of owner Bob Nutting and president Frank Coonelly. "If Bob or Frank decide to make a change and bring in a new general manager, that's their call," Huntington said. ... Huntington said there are "a multitude of reasons" for the Pirates' second-half funk. Some of it, he said, might be a matter of the team simply finding its level over the course of a 162-game season.

It looks like it's going to be two decades without a winning season now.

Once this guy wins a division or wild card, he will never look back as a manager, he's good at what he does with the talent he's got!!!

I hope not. I have no allegiance to the Pirates, but I hate to see a team mired in endless futility (unless it's the Yanks, BoSox or ChiSox).

Would you settle for the Mets or Phils mired in futility?

Hats off to the Bucs - They were relevant beyond Memorial Day... Progress.

I kinda like the Mets for some stupid reason. I hate the Phils because they play in a ridiculous excuse for a stadium. But really, the three teams I mentioned can all rot in Hell for all I care.

Yeah--"collapsing" from last place to fourth place is called "improvement" by most people. Maybe the PTR is owned by the same folks who run the Boston Herald.

Don't we all?

wiseup: Clint Hurdle got the dreaed vote of confidence. Two consectitive late season collaspes, of teams so close to ending the 20 consecetive losing seasons. There were some reasons for the collaps. McCuthen carried team the first half. After All-Star game, his .375 average slump to current .336. His Starting pitching staff era went up dramatically. McDonald was not the same pitcher he was in the first half . Correa had his problems, in and out of bull pen. morten was on DL most of year. Rest of offense was very inconsistant. With 9 games left and 3 games under.500, the Pirates still have a chance to get to .500. Hurdles job could depend on it.

These statements by NH remind me of Kevin Bacon's 'All is Well' character in Animal House.

'Remain Calm, All is Well!'

The Pirates have improved under Hurdle. Stick with him and I think he can make them a winner. They came close this year so....hang with it!

After this season's epic/historicly bad collaspe and last season's collaspe, Hurtle should be out on his can after the season.
