Angels reliever: 'I wish they would fire players'

08:14 AM ET 09.24 | Add reports of thin ice under Mike Scioscia and general manager Jerry Dipoto to a list of things that haven't gone right in 2012 for the Angels, but owner Arte Moreno put that fire out over the weekend. LaTroy Hawkins, the 39-year-old reliever playing for his ninth team, doesn't believe the front office or coaching staff should take any blame. "It ain't their fault," he said. "When you come down to it, I wish they would fire players. I've always thought it's weird to have a manager fired because his team didn't do well. It's not like he doesn't have control of his clubhouse. You see guys get fired because he doesn't have control of his clubhouse, it isn't like that. We just picked the wrong time to struggle. It has nothing to do with the staff here."

This what Baseball is all about, the last 10 Or so games of the year, The Hot Team wins all the Marbles!!! What a great time of the year!!!

Yeah it's gonna be great when the second wild card team is 5-6 games behind the first wildcard team...and they have a chance after 162 games to knock out the first wild card and go to the playoffs...and if that happens MLB will have a playoff team that will be almost 10 games worse than all the division winners....what a joke...

You'd be singing a different tune if it was the Mets chasing one of those wold cards spots I'll bet.

I hear you. But this is Bud's response to the situation a couple of years ago, when the Yankees appeared to deliberately lose the division to Tampa, so that they could enter the playoffs as a wild card team and play the Twins in the opening round, rather than the Rangers. It worked for them, too--they were able to win the initial series with the Twins before losing in the next round to the Rangers.

i truly believe sciosca needs to look for another job. the angels are not doing well and i think it is because the decisions he makes at crucial time. let's get rid of him so we can have an angel winning team again.

Angels should make the playoffs, ChiSox are already a lock and they have a worse record than the Halos. Interesting to see how this years double wild card spot effects the outcome of the World Series or not.

Agree - The point of playing 162 games is completed wasted if you start letting teams in that should be at home

the failures and poor offense from all the hitters is not mike sciocia's fault, it seems like it but still is not his fault, there are more than 20 blow games but the offense has to be blamed more than the pitching, the 20 plus blowout games are part of the pitching faults but the offense should take the rest of the blaming, everything starts with a good pitching, second the hitters should provide with at least 7 runs per game,

but if we pay close attention, the offense is brightly for been absent,,,,

the club has different components, just like a body, the hitters the pitchers, the bullpen, the bench, the coaches, the manager, the GM, the owner, is clear that some parts of the team had been more passive than other areas, perhaps to throw the blame at the pitching is the easy door to select from all of them, the truth is, pitching has been working overtime thanks to the poor run support from the hitters, for the same reason the pitchers ending games with a lost plus they get hammered because of the lost game, but if we look things from another side the hitters should get the whole punishment unstead the pitchers,,,,

the game has to be played as a team, poor excecution should throw the whole blame on the manager, but can't be just because the team can't overcome failures, every team has slumps, but the team herre struggle from game one,, pitching offense and deffense everybody were too lost to find themselves if at all, then pitching cought a better timming and better balance at every game,,,but the offense stayed too long in the poor contribution as a run providers,

little run prodution = to a overworked bullpen,= losing the game leads to= poor pitching,=the bullpen is not good enough=poor excecution from the manager at the end= is the manager's fault and nobody else,,,but everything is clearly than the water, the offense haven't done their job, they either score one or 3 runs per game and they do expect to win the game, with such poor run contribution is too hard to win the games, why? because you would be asking the pitching to be almost perffect at every game!!!

trumbo is a 3 months player, mike trout play good for 3 months as well come august and september and his hitting and strikeout rate took a different road, but after all by far mike trout has been the best player in the halos history, this rookie was even better than any pujols, any trumbo, or any vernon wells!!!

the owner has the right call, the GM and the manager should get another opportunity to proved otherwise,,,, but i still would try to fix the hitting and pitching staff, either make it better or good enough to be able to compete next year,,,,
