08:15 AM ET 09.24 | Kerry Wood's return to Wrigley on Sunday probably won't be his last. [He'll] likely continue to make numerous appearances representing the Cubs. Wood said he has talked with the Cubs front office about a potential role. ... Wood spoke in support of such former Cubs as Ryne Sandberg and Sammy Sosa returning to the organization. "Sammy and (Mark) McGwire pretty much single-handedly brought the fans back just to baseball (in 1998), and Sammy did tremendous things for the city," Wood said. "We all know how he left and how it ended with him, but ultimately that one mistake that he made at the end shouldn't determine his future here in Chicago. He did too much for the city."

Wishful thinking Woods but Sandberg willl probably be a big league manager as early as next season not in Chicago and Sammy will never be welcome back to the North Side.

Dude didn't hit at all for the Cubs. Nine years in a row of 100+ RBIs was really weak.
I don't like Sosa, but saying he didn't perform is riduculous.

What Sosa did was real, not a fantasy game, yes both him and McGuire brought the fans back, they are now paying the price for their actions! I think the Fans of Chicago will welcome him back, but the Team won't use him as an ambassador!

Amen! After the strike baseball needed something, Sammy & Mark brought the fans back in masses. MLB knew something was up but the decided to look the other way, they are just as a part of it as anyone else. The records might be tainted but at the time it brought excitment. And Sammy & Mark wern't stuck up about it, Sammy was always smiling and Mark was very professional about it all. Yeah, the roits ruined it but it was the times. I'd rather root for Sammy & Mark then Barry, thats for sure! Bring Sammy back in some capacity, he was just so much of being a Cub! Thanks Kerry!

You hit the nail right on the head. It drove me crazy watching Sammy late in the game. He would swing for the fences every time he was up regardelss of the situation.

"One mistake at the end"
Umm you mean repeatedly doing steroids for multiple years? Lying to Congress?

I can't counter that at all. You're right, the Tigers choked hard. And yes, a great reason to get hammered.
