08:16 AM ET 09.24 | As the most important series of the Texas season kicks off, the Rangers aren't sure when -- or if -- outfielder Josh Hamilton will be in the lineup against Oakland. Hamilton missed the final five games of the road trip after leaving Tuesday's game early because of vision and equilibrium problems caused by sinus issues. He left the team in Anaheim on Friday and returned home for tests with team doctors. Hamilton [was expected to undergo more exams] as he and the Rangers continue to search for a definitive cause for his illness. "I certainly hope to get him back soon," manager Ron Washington said. "But I really don't know." Washington acknowledged that the lineup lacks its usual punch without Hamilton.

amazingly Stupid is right. He won't be back next year so get a jump on not having him in the lineup, but good thing it looks like Napoli's slumber has ended.

So does anyone still want to max this guy out? I really hope the Rangers only offer this guy what is realistic, and there is no doubt they will be smart. Any team that gives this guy a max contract is foolish! You can't depend on him.

Someone will pay him what he wants. Yes, he's somewhat unreliable but he still puts up big #'s and would sell seats. Look for Boston to make a play for him to rejuvenate a slumping franchise. Of course, the Yankees are always in the mix despite the fact that NY is probably not a great place for a player with his vices.

With his medical probs and long cold stretches, Texas should offer him max $110m/6 years. He isn't going to get Fielder / Pujos money since he's damaged goods. Anyone who gives a max contract they're just throwing money away.
Sounds like Dodger material who are buying up bad bricks of overpaid players.

This guy has definately raised some eyebrows in both good and bad ways. Exceptionally talented, yet seemingly fragile. Chemical dependance issues. His performance in the 2nd half has been below average compared to his own standards. Don't know what's ahead for him as far as for whom he will play next year and for how much. I have a feeling it will still be for Texas and it will be for a lot of money. Not the top contract in MLB but he will be in that league if Texas is the team he signs with. He's worth more there than he is anywhere else.

Max contracts? This isn't the NBA. If someone wanted to offer him $500 million for two years they could, no salary cap and no "max contracts".
