Will Detroit ever pay its fine?

Bettman needs to build at least some trust with the fans. Giving the appearance of coming down hard on one of his own will not hurt in that regard.

But, it does nothing to keep trust and unity among owners. If Buttman loses Detroit, others might soon follow which, for us fans, would be a good thing.

Yeah. I mean the owners wouldn't put someone in charge, and keep him employed, that had no idea, right? I mean that would just be...crazy stupid. It wouldn't surprise me if this was set up between Ilitch and Bettman. Bettman tells Ilitch to have someone make the statement so he can "fine" the Wings. If the fine isn't going to be paid, then it's all a show anyway.

I think what I'm suggesting is that both sides are wasting time on shenanigans instead of getting down to the business of getting a CBA done. Just a theory, which is mine.
