Phils to consider shutting Halladay down?

08:14 AM ET 09.25 | It appears as if the Phillies will soon run out of time. Roy Halladay and Chase Utley are both facing pivotal offseasons. Halladay has to address his shoulder and get it stronger and healthier so that he can rediscover some of the zip and movement on his two bread-and-butter pitches -- the cutter and sinker -- next season. ... With his team all but out of the race, Halladay should start his offseason now. He should not make his final two starts. He should begin his offseason program now and get well long before spring training. On Monday, GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said he had not spoken with Halladay or team medical personnel about the possibility of shutting down the pitcher now.

The Phils have been out of the race for a month, hey it is Philly the fans will boo anyway if you had shut them down in early September or now.

Yeah, admittingly its bad odds they can make it but to say they have been out for a month is drug induced stupidity...

This is the kind of stupidity that has been fostered by ESPN and SI.com.

This notion that Philly is the only sports town ANYWHERE that boo's its players.

It requires not intellect to make ridiculous statements like this. However, if you want to make ignorant statements like this, how about a fact. The Phillies avg. attendance is higher then Washington and Atlanta even though the Phillies have been under .500 for a majority of the season. Further, I guarantee the Phillies avg. attendance will be higher next season also, no matter what the outcome of the playoffs. Yes, we are terrible fans in Philly, but at least we support our teams unlike fair weather fans in Washington and Atlanta.

With his team all but out of the race...

5.5 back with four teams ahead of them and only nine games left to play.

Sorry, Utz, the Phillies only have a marginally better shot at making the post season than the Indians do. They'll likely be eliminated by this weekend.

Way way long shot to make the postseason. Shut him down before he does some serious damage to himself. @we_are__ : and don't forget that some people threw snowballs at a drunken Santa 50 years ago! That's always a good one to bring up. What do you think the odds are that people who always bring that up were even alive back then?

They made a nice run to get back into the hunt, but it is pretty much over now. Start getting ready for next year.

What a stupid comment back flyers when it is plain as day 17 and a half out on September 1st is facts not a dumb reply about drugs.
