Atlanta's Cy Young candidate

08:17 AM ET 09.25 | Craig Kimbrel, dominant all year, has continued his run right into September. With 18 strikeouts and only two walks (and five hits) in 9 1/3 scoreless September innings, he is starting to pick up some Cy Young support. His 0.75 WHIP in September is actually slightly worse than his WHIP for the year, which is 0.67. By any measure, his year has been one of the best ever for a reliever. The Mets' R.A. Dickey, the Nationals' Gio Gonzalez, the Reds' Johnny Cueto and other starters have been mentioned more often as Cy Young candidates. ... Well, Chapman had to be shut down for a couple weeks, and Kimbrel remains the one real Cy Young relief threat. He probably won't win it, as starters generally have been favored, especially in recent years.

As a Braves fan, I'm loving the season Kimbrel is having. He's shown a lot of growth in one year. Last season walks were a bit of a problem, this season walks have been few and far between, and most of the few runs he has given up have been solo homers, and he hasn't allowed more than one hit in an inning this season. I don't think he should win the Cy Young, but I do think he deserves a top 5 finish.

This guy who wrote this article has got to be a homer, because how can you consider Kimbrel for MVP when he is not even the save leader in the NL, Jason MOtte.

Much like wins for a starter, the amount of saves for a reliever doesn't determine who is better. The amount of saves are determined by the amount of save opportunities. Motte has had a lot more opportunities. It's not even an argument who the best closer in the NL is.

Save totals (like wins) don't tell the whole story

starters should get more consideration about the Cy award,,, they play deep games at to the seven innings, and play more innings per season 200 plus innings get more wins get more strikeouts in the long run,,,,

Great year for sure and anybody would love to have him.......but, the award will go to a starter. IMO either Gonzalez or Dickey. Gonzalez has the inside track if the Nats finish first in the East.
