Fisher wants QB to remain a 'hunting dog'

08:18 AM ET 09.25 | Jimbo Fisher, apparently with far more time on his hands this week than Lane Kiffin had last week, spent some of it comparing EJ Manuel's suddenly rising Heisman Trophy stock to a competition between show dogs and hunting dogs. The Heisman race was really a popularity contest, he said. "Show dogs" make the biggest impression in it, he said. He doesn't want show dogs on his team. ... "[The Heisman] has nothing to do with our season. If he would win it, that would be wonderful. That's all great. But that's not for him to decide. For him to decide is what kind of teammate he's going to be. What kind of leader he's going to be and how he's going to go each week. If you want to parade him around and do all that, [fine]. I'd rather have a hunting dog."

I said it yesterday. Based on the D's or the lack of that EJ will face for the remainder of the season he should put up some really good numbers, if he stays healthy.

If our LBs stay healthy through the October gauntlet then UF has a chance. Right now, razor thin with Jenkins out.

I think your Gators and Froggie's H-o-r-n-e-y Toads have the two worst gauntlet's coming up.
UF has LSU, Vandy, USCe and UGa but only Vandy is a true away game since you guys always attend the world's largest outdoor cocktail party. Only thing that could be worse is if you had Bama in there somewhere.
TCU has Okie Lite, WVa, KSU, UTx and OU beginning later in October and three of those on the road. (But there doesn't seem to be much difference in their play on the road or at home IMHO.)
Anyone else know of some similar "murderer's row" stretches?

I like Jimbo's attitude, if you play for the team instead of seeking individual accolades, you will be more successful (your team will be more successful) and you will end up looking better anyway....

Last year's October was worse for the Gators. Bama, @LSU, @ Auburn, then UGA with So Car and FSU. At least there is @ Vandy this year and no Upshaw to break our QB.

LOL! Couldn't help but think of Coach Bowden when I read Jimbo's comments. That could have come straight out of Bobby's mouth.
BTW, it would be "Ann" he'd be asking for money. Mrs. Coach Bowden runs the Bowden clan. Classy lady.
