Should Selanne be thanking Bettman (70 million times)?

08:23 AM ET 09.25 | There are few figures in the NHL who draw a less collectively favorable reaction than Gary Bettman, and it's open season on the commissioner these days. People such as Teemu Selanne, who recently wrote on a blog that Bettman, "is certainly the NHL's most hated person." ... So, let's see here. At last count Selanne has made almost $70 million over the course of his NHL career, which began just a couple of months before Bettman took office. At that time, the NHL had revenues of about $400 million. Now they're at $3.3 billion. You'd have to be a complete dullard not to realize that Bettman had something to do with that and the subsequent pay raises Selanne received because of those increases.

I really expect more from The Hockey News than tripe like this...this is NYPOST territory
Okay so then to extrapolate a little bit, if Bettman is responsible for Selanne's...and by this logic...everyone else's large contracts, (Sid/Ovie/Malkin/Pariese, etc) does that make him chiefly responsible for the financial straits that teams are in? Seems to me you have to take the good and bad, right?
