08:24 AM ET 09.25 | It seems to many fans that players and owners are somewhat logically heading toward a 50-50 split, even if it's not that easy. You have to believe the owners will eventually gravitate toward accepting 50-50 as well, but right now the hardliners are simply not willing to go there. Those hardliners, we presume, include commissioner Gary Bettman and the owners whose teams are better off with no games being played than they would be if the season were a go. Owners in bad markets ... have reportedly hijacked this entire process and are not willing to entertain a moderate deal. At the same time, there are plenty of owners who want to get a deal done and are willing to come to a compromise, but at this point it seems their voices are not being heard.

Owners in bad markets..........looks like there will be a lot of bad markets if this lockout goes for a long time....even the hard nosed die hard fan up north will be slow to come back to the fold.....down here in the south, we have the sunshine and outdoors to fill up our extra time....

This story is childishly written. If the owners were not overwhelmingly in favor of a lockout..............there wouldn't be a lockout. Do all 30 owners support the same thing? I'm sure the answer is no. The Dwarf doesn't act without majority ownership support however. When he fails to get it, they'll either hire someone else or order him to settle. Fehr is not without sin either. I said many times when he was hired you could bet your bottom dollar there would either be a strike or a lockout. He couln't settle without proving how tough he was first. Neither side is 100% right or 100% wrong but both sides are simply trying to look like they're being treated badly by the other. I no longer care.

Who is who among the owners? Where, for example, is Mike Illich? His Wings are big fish in a smaller pond. He's a businessman and I'm sure would like the money. He's also smart enough to realize that the money is quite limited if there are no games. Which side does he, or other owners, come down on?

TOR, MTL, OTT, WPG, CGY, VCR, NYR, BOS, BUF, PHL, PGH, CHI, STL, DET.
So that is 14, maybe a couple more will hang around a bit. I do not have a problem with contraction to a 16 team League. 8 make playoffs, and good to go
