Wings' forward says lockout could last more than a year

08:27 AM ET 09.25 | In the case of the lockout, Detroit Red Wings forward Danny Cleary is not a glass-half-full kind of guy. [Cleary warned Monday] that the lockout that is threatening the start of the NHL season might linger on and on. "I think people don't think it can go a year," Cleary said after several Wings held an independent skate at Troy Sports Center. "As players, we think it can. Maybe longer." ... "Just trying to be realistic," Cleary said. "I think the league is waiting for us to make the move, and we're waiting for them to move. So someone has to move. And I don't see it coming from our end. We've given them a couple of good options that they can work with, and they, obviously, feel it's not good enough. We're at a stalemate."

if the lockout last more than a year, then new fans south of the Mason/Dixon will not be around for the comeback....what a shame......will be hard to fill arenas with no fan base....borderline teams will fold........go figure...

as a Pred supporter, would hate to see this happen....but, its a great game and would watch northern teams play on TV....at least they would put the best six teams on ice everygame....quality of play goes a long way......

Silly attitude. The longer this goes on the more likely it is for fans to drift away from the weaker franchises and for those franchises to fold. Fewer teams means fewer jobs for the members of the PA. If that's what they want then they are well on their way to accomplishing a reduction in jpbs. BTW, I have no admiration for any of the owners either

Quite true. As mentioned before there ARE other leagues and games to watch played by guys with a lot of talent in the AHL, junior hockey, the ECHL, collegiate hockey etc. Tickets cost less than a week's salary. This stoppage means I'll waste less money on NHL tix this year.
The most annoying thing to me is that both parties knew for years exactly when this CBA was ending and began really working on it in August of this year. Wow. Way to plan. And the NHLPA wanted a 4 year deal? How stupid. Why not just get weekly deals so that we caould watch work stoppage and lock outs at least 7 or 8 times per season.
