07:59 AM ET 09.26 | Josh Smith is likely headed for free agency, but Hawks fans needn't worry just yet. [If] Smith re-signs with the Hawks before June 30, the extension can be for only a maximum of three years. If he waits until after his contract expires, he can re-sign for up to five years. According to Hawks general manager Danny Ferry, Smith and his agents have said he would like to remain in Atlanta. ... "He has worked hard this summer and I believe he is going to have great season. I've been in contact with his representatives. Josh and his representatives have been clear that he is excited about the direction of the team and wants to be part of the future in Atlanta. That being said, I don't expect the contract situation to be resolved until next summer."

Danny Boy failed in Cleveland, he failed as an NBA player (perrenial role player) when he was expected to be great, and now he's going to fail as a GM in Atlanta!

Ferry made his best move as soon as he got the job in getting rid of Joe Johnson's contract. His next big move will be watching Josh Smith sign a new contract with the Lakers next season.

Sure, whatever you believe.

He'll get a more than decent contract. Just look at what players like Batum got. Smith deserves much more, he can score but his defense is where it's at.

I hope he either goes to Boston or the Lakers. He's definitely not going to a small market team.

Blah! Blah! Blah! Danny Ferry will never take the Hawks any closer than they are right now.
