08:13 AM ET 09.26 | Soon, there may be even more room for the 12th man. The Texas A&M University System plans to spend up to $450 million on renovations to Kyle Field to keep home football games in College Station and wants local governments to pitch in $38 million. Chancellor John Sharp told those numbers to a select group of local government officials at an impromptu meeting Monday afternoon, according to multiple officials in attendance. The group of community leaders discussed tentative plans for renovating Kyle Field. Renovation costs ranged from $425 to $450 million and seating ranged from 93,000 to 103,500, according to officials. The construction would be spread over three years, the officials said.

"and wants local governments to pitch in $38 million."
I'm sure the cities of Dime Box and Sommerville will be able to cough up $5 mil each.

The entire county of Brazos should be able to cough up about 100.00

That's kinda odd.
When I was there for the UF game, the word I got from the ags I talked to was that they were gonna raze Kyle Field and build a whole new facility on the site, and play at Reliant in Houston while construction was underway. Guess that was just a local rumor? They all seemed pretty certain if you ask me.

If they can sell it out, why not. But, it seems that they ought to have enough money themselves to cover the costs.

I had heard they weren't going to make a final decision one way or another until sometime next year.

$38,000,000 is a lot of taxpayer money, considering that the total population of Bryan/College Station is only 175,000. Would be an average tax cost of $900 for a family of four.
Sheep [***censored***] want everything the big boys have, and they want someone else to pay for it when they can't. I half expect them to come up with some reason why something is Texas' fault, and therefore we should kick in a big chunk of the $450,000,000.

They're generally certain about most everything. Just not always correct. I think the phrase we used was "often wrong, but never in doubt".

Oh, there are more than enough wealthy aggies around to fund it. Not all of 'em are happy with the university leadership right now...at least the one around me aren't.

That could be the case - and if just about everybody wants it razed and rebuilt new, then it can easily come across as a done deal to the casual observer such as myself.

Pretty dumb use of the new SEC cash...
Would be pissed if I was in one of the communities asked to pitch in, particularly if I were an alum of some other school.
