02:44 PM ET 09.27 | Adam Schefter reported that the New England Patriots released Kellen Winslow Jr. after he requested the move, and he also stated in the tweet that it "sounds like Aaron Hernandez healing quicker than expected." Hernandez was injured in Week 2's game against the Arizona Cardinals early on and had an initial timetable of 4-6 weeks with a low ankle sprain. However, the recent release of Winslow could mean that Hernandez is closer to returning.

Or it could be that Winslow wasn't working out, and wasn't worth wasting time trying to get him to learn the playbook.

why didnt he just sit back on the pats bench with some of the other former starting league tight ends (Shiancoe, Ballard)...By this time next year belichick will have an all TE receiving corps, assuming they can eat enough Gronk flakes to be healthy
