Andrew Bynum, a big factor in the Los Angeles Lakers' strong start, will be out for at least eight weeks because of an injured left knee. MRI tests and an examination by team physician Dr. Steve Lombardo on Monday revealed Bynum injured his kneecap and suffered a bone bruise.

The Lakers will go down now, unless they have some hidden fortitude, which I hope that they do.

Although it???s unfortunate for the Lakers since they are playing so well, however it will be a good character test for the team and specially Kobe.

January 14, 2008  06:15 PM ET

bad news for the lakers but even if they ended up a 6th seed playing against a denver or portland team in the first round wouldnt be bad. As long as they are at full strength for the playoffs is what really matters. Go Lake Show!!

January 14, 2008  06:21 PM ET

The Lakers are indeed in trouble if Kwame Brown is now their starting pivot. Expect a dropoff in wins and for Kobe to once again try to do it all and fail.

January 14, 2008  06:26 PM ET

I hope this ends the Lakers surprising run. If they are going to count on Kwame or Mihm down low to patrol the paint they are in trouble. This is all great news to me being a die hard blazer fan. Alright I'm still upset about the 4th quarter 13 point meltdown.

January 14, 2008  06:35 PM ET

Really too bad. He was playing really well. The Lakers were playing really well. Guess someone else must step up. Maybe they now will sign Webber for the rest of the year...

January 14, 2008  06:39 PM ET

Yeah.. I hope they sign Webber. He'll destroy that team internally and on the court. They'd be better off with a ham-fisted Brown than a gimpy Webber.

January 14, 2008  06:50 PM ET

its ova with, the lakers are done, And im there biggest fan!!!!!!!!!!!

January 14, 2008  07:01 PM ET

Its fine. Lakers are going to resign Vlade Divac.

January 14, 2008  07:16 PM ET

So much for a sensational season. Bynum's injury prolly will put a huge hurdle to his development, and usually when young centers go down with injuries, they rarely recover to full strength. Tough Luck; I feel for the guy;

Interesting to see what approach Kobe takes now

January 14, 2008  07:26 PM ET

Can't wait for the Lakers to rid themselves of Kwame's contract...he of the hands of steel and elfin mits

January 14, 2008  08:22 PM ET

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I am going to the San Pedro Bridge to jump off? How can basketball gods be so cruel?!!!!!!!!!!! Does Kobe asks to be traded now? WHY OH WHY US LAKER NATION! I am going to have nightmares for the next 2 months on Kwame playing pivot! How can life be so cruel. Why could it not happen to someone else WHY WHY WHY WHY!!!!!!!!
Okay let me slap myself silly and get over it. Bottom line 6-8 seed going into playoffs is not that bad. I hope we get either Suns Utah or Blazers (which is a laughable matter in itself) Let see if we got some B-a-l-ls. I know we cannot beat Detroit and few other good teams especially on back to back nights but even if we go lightly better then 500 we will be in playoffs and hopefully with healty Drew we might sneak up on few teams. Go Lakers!

January 14, 2008  08:30 PM ET

TJK24 Die Hard Blazers fan! Since when did Laker's blog started to get Looser nation with stupid comments. Die Hard Blazer Fan! What is next Die Harder Blazer Fan! and all other stupid sequels. Go massage Oden's knee and see if you can make it better. What a looser. Maybe this year they might get into playoffs, but then again the only way you will win somthing is that if you bring back Walton (not Luke), Dr. Ramsey, John Lucas and then you might scratch a playoff berth. You are still and will be forever Lakers B-I-A-T-C-H

Didn't drafting of Oden reminded you of Sam Bowie? It should because a microfracture surgery on a 300+ Lbs guy who is barely 20 years old should give you shivers. No way he is comming back and being the stud that he was in H.S. Kevin Durant must be looking so good right now to you.

Please refrain from making further comments on this post site. This is reserved for the Lakers fans PERIOD and not die hard or harder or whatever you might think of next.

Just devastating news to the rising Lakers, Baby Bynum was the big reason they've gotten this far, this good, this fast. Odom & Walton were out with big injuries around this time last year. the Ball Gods have not been kind to the Lakes, they have to re-group and Kobe will be tested as there leader more than ever before to keep things alligned in the right direction, we already know Kwame has No choice but to Man-up for 2

Lamar will have to step it up and start getting his 20 ppg and 12 rpg that he's capable of. Kobe will start scoring 30-35 ppg. Kwame Brown better play some damn good defense and block a lot of shots, because he's definitely not going to contribute on the offensive end. We have one of the hardest stretches of the season coming up, too. If we could go .500 while he's out, we'll still be in an okay spot.

One good thing out of this: Turiaf will get more playing time, hopefully resulting in mote pt for him once Bynum is back.

January 14, 2008  08:53 PM ET

No worries.. Kwame Brown will take over.. It's time he shows everybody that he's really the #1 pick.. .. .. what am I thinking. We're doomed :(

January 14, 2008  09:00 PM ET

So King James you think you will get the scoring titly this year hey? Could have if Bynum did not go down with injury. I guess we are about to witness Mr. Bryant start getting few 40 and 50 point games for the next 2 months. Mr. Bryant please introduce yourself to Mr. NO SUCH THING AS A BAD SHOT. I guess it is going to go back to last year. Lamar becomming facilitator and Kobe being Kobe. We need him to carry the team once again like he did last year. God I hope they beat Seattle today. Now these type of victories will come in handy come March and April.

January 14, 2008  09:04 PM ET

too bad for the lakers...they're on winning streak....they must win today against seattle, the succeeding scheds are tough...goodluck to them...hopefully kwame can give a decent game, we're not asking much for him, rebounds and defense is all we want for him to do....and hope kobe will not "do it all"...he still must trust his teammate..hope lamar get his game now, he needed to be consistent without young andrew..GO LAKERS!

No worries, he will be back much sooner.
